I know, I know, how can I for one minute try to say that socks are really that important when it comes to fashion for those of us over 40, I mean they’re just plain old socks after all, aren’t they?

It all started with a bright pair of regimental socks to go with the regimental tie, bought a couple of years ago for a TA bash, only after the said ‘bash’ I couldn’t seem to take them off. Bright RIFLE green they are, with hoops of red edged in black, bloody smashing. As my courage grew I started to wear them with jeans, chinos and all manner of casual clothes, every morning as I stare at my sock draw I somehow can’t bring myself to pick any other these days, all the dull blues and blacks now consigned to the back of the wardrobe.
